ISO 9001:2026 Transition Readiness Check

ISO 9001:2026 was published on 16 September 2026, and certificates against the 2015 edition stop being valid after 30 September 2029. Most of the work is not new requirements but knowing your dates, keeping both editions straight, and having evidence for the clauses that changed. Answer for your own organization today; the gap list tells you what to do first.

1. Do you know which edition your current certificate is against, and the date your certification body will stop issuing 2015 certificates to you?
2. Have you asked your certification body for its ISO 9001:2026 transition schedule, in writing?
3. If you have not reached stage 1 yet, are you building the system against the 2026 edition rather than 2015?
4. Can top management show evidence that it promotes quality culture and ethical behaviour (clause 5.1.1)?
5. Does your risk register treat risks (6.1.2) and opportunities (6.1.3) separately, with actions for both?
6. Does your awareness training cover the organization's quality culture and ethics, not only the quality policy (clause 7.3)?
7. Have you recorded a decision on whether climate change is a relevant issue for your organization (clause 4)?
8. Do you keep the 2015 and 2026 texts as separate, labelled documents instead of overwriting one with the other?
9. If your procedures are in another language, do you have a one-page glossary for the new terms, with the English clause text beside the translation?
10. Is there a named owner and a dated 90-day plan covering gap analysis, procedure updates, internal audit and management review?

    Where these questions come from

They follow the changes and deadlines we summarised in our transition guide: clauses 5.1.1, 6.1 and 7.3, the climate change question in clause 4, the 31 March 2028 and 30 September 2029 dates from the IAF transition document, and the practical problem of keeping two editions and one translation straight for three years. Your certification body's own letter overrides any general summary, including this one.
