Shop-Floor Records Readiness Check

An assessor scores what you can show, not what the foreman knows. Answer each question honestly about records, not about people. The result is a list of gaps with what the record should look like when it is fixed; that list is worth more than the score.

1. Can you say where any given assembly is right now, from a screen, without phoning the yard?
2. Does the parts list on the floor come straight from the model (Tekla, Advance Steel) rather than a retyped spreadsheet?
3. For any joint, can you show who welded it, under which WPS, and that the welder was qualified on that date?
4. Is the NDT result tied to the specific weld and welder, not just to the drawing?
5. Can you show the last nonconformance from raise to closure, with the recorded cause and the corrective action?
6. Does every cut part and every kept offcut carry the heat number of the plate or bar it came from?
7. Can you say, for a given shipment, how many tonnes came from which mill, including the steel consumed as scrap?
8. Do you hold a mill test certificate for every heat used, retrievable by heat number?
9. When the shop network drops, do records keep being captured rather than going to paper 'for now'?
10. Could you trace three assemblies from drawing to dispatch using records alone, with no one from memory?

Gaps, with what the record should look like

    Where these questions come from

Questions 1 to 5 and 9 to 10 are the gaps that show up fastest in the one-day ITTI assessment that sits at the front of Factory Forward UAE. Questions 6 to 8 are the precursor-mass and mill-certificate records an EU importer needs from you for a CBAM declaration on CN 7308 structures.
