Google Workspace Pricing 2026: Every Plan, Flexible vs Annual, and What 50 Users Really Pay

Google Workspace is the default business email for many small companies, and its price depends on two choices most people make without noticing: the edition and the payment plan. This guide lists what Google publishes for Business Starter, Standard and Plus, shows what 10, 50 and 300 users pay per year, and says when a cheaper tool makes more sense. Prices are US list prices from Google's help center (last updated 26 October 2026), checked on 6 November 2026.

How much does Google Workspace cost?

On a one-year commitment Google Workspace costs $7 per user per month for Business Starter, $14 for Business Standard and $22 for Business Plus. The flexible plan, with no commitment and monthly billing, costs 20% more: $8.40, $16.80 and $26.40 per user per month (Google Workspace Help).

What a team pays per year

Multiply the monthly price by 12 and by the number of users. Annual plan:

UsersBusiness StarterBusiness StandardBusiness Plus
10$840$1,680$2,640
50$4,200$8,400$13,200
300$25,200$50,400$79,200

On the flexible plan the same teams pay $1,008, $2,016 and $3,168 at 10 users, $5,040, $10,080 and $15,840 at 50 users, and $30,240, $60,480 and $95,040 at 300 users.

Flexible or annual?

The annual plan is cheaper by one fifth, but you cannot remove licenses until renewal and you owe the full commitment if you cancel early. Google bills the annual plan monthly or yearly depending on region and how you signed up. Pick the flexible plan only if headcount really moves up and down, for example seasonal staff. For a stable team, the annual plan saves $16.80 per Starter seat per year.

The introductory price

When we checked, Google's pricing page showed Business Starter at $3.50 per user per month. The footnote says this applies to new customers only, to the first 20 users, for 12 months, and standard pricing applies after that. Budget with $7, not $3.50, for year two.

Which edition do you need?

  • Starter: business email, 100-person meetings and Gemini in Gmail. Enough for most teams that only need mail and calendar.
  • Standard: adds 2 TB of storage per user and Gemini across Docs, Sheets and Meet. Worth it when people collaborate on files all day.
  • Plus: adds eDiscovery, Vault retention and 5 TB per user. Choose it only if compliance needs retention and search over all mail.

When Google Workspace is not the cheapest answer

Mail-only teams can pay far less elsewhere. Zoho Mail lists plans from $1 to $4 per user per month (see our Zoho Mail pricing guide), which puts 50 users at $600 to $2,400 a year against $4,200 on Starter. If you must keep mail on your own servers for data residency or at a few hundred mailboxes and more, a self-hosted server changes the math: one public university cut its mail bill from about $70,000 a year to under $4,000 in infrastructure (case study). We compared all three at 50, 500 and 5,000 mailboxes in FanMail vs Google Workspace vs Zoho Mail, and you can run your own numbers in the email cost calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Google Workspace plan? No. Google lists no free business edition, only a 14-day trial.

Does the price include tax? No. List prices exclude tax and vary by region and currency.

What is the user limit? 300 users for Starter, Standard and Plus. Larger organizations need Enterprise.

Can I switch from flexible to annual later? Yes, but check the contract terms first: an annual commitment cannot be reduced until renewal.

Also compare Fastmail pricing in 2026: to per user per month paid yearly.
